Random

Since I have no camera, I have no pictures but I still wanted to write a little about our week. Nothing special happened but I feel like I'm forgetting to write a lot of the little stuff that happens. The little stuff is the stuff we will forget later and my time with these cute kids is slipping away so fast that I better start writing these experiences down more often.

Nate has a new obsession and therefore, so does Jake. We have alot of extra old bikes sitting in our garage so they have been taking them apart and making them into new bikes. The most important thing Nate says they are trying to do is to make the bikes weigh less. The latest bike they re-did was 42 pounds to begin with and he got it down to 20. Scares me a little thinking about what they might have taken off the bike to make it weigh so much less! I just love that they are outside using their hands and brains rather than being inside watching t.v. or playing video games. Jake even told me that he doesn't like to play on the computer as much as being outside now. Miracles do happen! We'll see how long this lasts with the weather getting hotter and hotter. In Arizona, we stay inside in the summer, not the winter.

Rebecca was asked by some classmates to do the art for a project they were doing in a class. She was really happy to say yes and loved doing it. She got some great compliments by her teacher and classmates. She and I had a nice conversation tonight about how proud I am of what a great girl she is. I've walked in on her reading her scriptures every night lately without ever being asked or reminded. She really wants to be her best and only hangs out with friends who want to choose the right too. Rebecca's best comment this week: I was tired one day after staying up way too late the night before and working all day so I brought home ingredients to make meatball subs. She saw what I was making and said, "I'm trying to eat better and this house makes it impossible!" She then proceeded to make a salad for herself and had some strawberries to go with it. She has given me more motivation to make more of an effort to cook healthier meals for my family even when I'm tired.

Sarah still hasn't tested to get her driver's permit. She has been eligible for a few months now but just doesn't even seem interested. I figured why push it?! She finally admitted that she's afraid she will make the same mistakes I made when I had my permit and mistook the gas for the brake when I was trying to park. I ran into the carport pole and the car that was parked on blocks. This made the car run into the house which then broke my brother's water bed and also caused the whole carport to come halfway down. Oh, such fond memories. Did I mention that my parents were out of town at the time and gave me strict instructions not to drive the car? Sarah would never do that though!!! Right Sarah???

Easter

We celebrated Easter with the Krummenachers this year. My (new) camera was dropped by one of my children so I am at the mercy of everyone else to take pictures for me. I took the tent pictures with my phone but I didn't like how they turned out so I'm so glad Glenna took lots of pictures this year! My mom took pictures of the kids dyeing eggs on Saturday so I'll post those later. This is Emily, Nate and Mitchell. Nate and Emily went over early to help Grandma set up all the tables.
Rebecca, Sarah, Grant and Tate did all the Easter egg hiding for the hunt.
Going clockwise from Rebecca: Grant, Mitchell, Nate, Emily, McKay.
Clockwise from Jake: Jackson, Abby, Jessica, Loryn.
Here are all the hunters waiting very patiently for the egg hunt to start.Nate and Mitchell really were excited to hunt for eggs, really!
Adam, Sarah and Tate watching all the kids hunt for their eggs.
Happy Easter!

Fun with cousins

Kelly and Cole went to Hawaii on Monday so we got the chance to watch two of their kids while they are gone until next Monday. We have enjoyed every minute of having them here. They fit right in with our crazy family. Wednesday night Brent came home with a tent for Nate that he's been begging for. He'll need it for his scout overnighters and he still had some of his birthday money leftover to pay for half so Brent gave in and got it. I told the kids that they would be able to sleep in it on Thursday night since there would be no school on Friday. The result.....
This is Jackson, Jake, Nate and Emily at 6:30am Thursday morning. I woke up at 6:00 to help Sarah get off to school by 6:40 and I saw all of these kids dressed and brushing their teeth so they could set up the tent before school. If I had only known years ago that this was the key to getting kids up! They were done setting it up by 6:30 and didn't need to go to school until 8:00!

Here's Jackson and Jake having breakfast this morning in the tent.

Yes the tent was set up with a t.v., boombox, dvd player, and even a guitar! You can tell Rebecca had a hand in getting them all set up. The fun part was cleaning it all up tonight at 10pm before they went to bed because they decided they didn't want to sleep in it a second night.

Apparently I'm a Racist...

So I was counting out the money for the day shift today like I always do when an African American lady walks in. As she was walking up I quickly wrote down the amount I just counted and the amount that was on the register to add up after I helped the lady. I put the money in my pocket and shut the register then asked the lady if I could help her.
She stepped back and asked in a very irritated voice, "Do you need me to step back? I saw you look at me then slam that register closed as fast as you could. If you need to count your money and are afraid I'm gonna take some, I'll just stand back."
Huh?!
I told her that I was just trying to put it away fast so that I could get to her as fast as possible and that it didn't even cross my mind that she would maybe take the money.
She said, " I saw you stick it in your pocket as fast as you could when you saw me. I know where that money is. If you need me to stand back, I will because I don't want you thinking I'm gonna take that money."
What?!
I apologized that that's what it looked like and assured her that I really was just trying to get to her as fast as possible. So she went ahead and ordered...an ice cream cone. As I was taking her money I asked her if people do that to her often because I couldn't figure out any other reason that she would automatically assume I thought she was going to take my money.
She said no, but then went on to whisper (loudly) to her husband about how I thought she was a horrible person. All I can say is,
wow.
