Courage to Try: Lesson 42, Manual 1

While planning my young women lesson that I will be teaching this Sunday I found this fun idea at sugardoodle:

I am going to base my lesson around the Disney movie Peter Pan.  I will recount how Peter taught Wendy and the children to fly... They needed courage and it was hard to do - He tells them to think of a happy thought, any happy little thought... They try very hard but none are able to fly except Peter - He comes back and tells them "that wont do, whats the matter with you? All you need is faith and trust - oh, and something I forgot - Pixie Dust" He sprinkles them with Pixie dust and then they have the courage they need and "off they go to Neverland"... I am going to say "wouldnt that be nice if we could have pixie dust to help us when we need courage?  Then we will talk about the different types of "Pixie Dust" that Heavenly Father has provided for us - Prayer, scriptures, patriarchal blessings, guidance from parents and Holy Ghost... We do have special pixie dust when we need courage! I will close with reminding them the four things Peter Pan said they needed - 1) a happy thought - or in other words thinking positively that we can do the task at hand 2) Faith 3) Trust - in our HF and 4) pixie dust (all the things we have talked about).  For a hand out I am going to give them Huge Pixie Sticks with a quote attached... Hope this helps someone!  (Idea by Hollie Hassey / ga11192009)

I created this handout that I will be attaching to pixie sticks to go with the lesson:

I am teaching the whole group this week, not just my Mia Maids so I have to go a little cheaper than huge pixie sticks although I love that idea!

Halloween 2012

It's been way too long and I realized when looking through the blog today that I need to keep it up as a family journal.  I'm sad that I've missed posting so many great things we've done this year.

I'm going to just start from now and move forward instead of trying to catch up for the whole year.  It's too overwhelming to try to do that!

Yesterday was Halloween and it was pretty low key for us.  I didn't take any pictures but my awesome mother in law did so I'll steal from her...again.

Since Jake is now in junior high, I told my kids that they were all responsible for figuring out their own costumes this year.  None of them except for Sarah had any clue what they wanted to dress up as.  On the night before Halloween, we last minute decided to run to Albertsons to get pumpkins to carve so while we were there we found a few things that the kids decided to use for their costumes:

Jake found this wig and decided to be a biker guy but ended up looking like Guy Fieri so we went with that.
Nate wasn't with us when we went to Albertsons so Rebecca took him to Goodwill on Halloween day and found this gem of a costume.

Sarah and Rebecca found the masks at Albertsons and decided on the Phantom and Christine.

Sarah ran home and came back to show us this costume that she wore to the YSA party she was heading off to.  Her cousin, Grant showed up about the same time in almost the same outfit.

What?!

Really?? It's been since March since I've written??? Oops. Here are a few highlights that I missed...

March:
Jake won the pinewood derby! It was our last pinewood derby so we were determined to end it right...

April:
Grandma Willis turned 90! I need to say here how thankful I am for my grandma. She has been an amazing example and influence in my life. I couldn't ask for a better grandma!
May:
Sarah graduated from high school...how did that happen???
June:
Rebecca turned 16!
We drove to Rocky Point on her birthday. (Another Jacob came along too...)

Sisters trip.
And Cousins! (June/July)

July:
Girls camp.(Where I lost my camera hence all the stolen pictures for my blog post)
Brent and his parents went up as the camp cooks and I went up as our ward camp director. I loved it, Brent and his parents might not have loved it as much as me...

My cute girls:
August:
School started. This year we have one child in each kind of school: Sarah in college, Rebecca in high school, Nate in junior high and Jake in elementary. We had a fashion show at Grandma's a few days before school began:

September:
Rebecca went to winter formal.
October:
We babysat our niece, Khloe for a few days and loved every second of it.
Oh, and Halloween.

November:
Rolls, rolls, and more rolls.
.
Oh, and Thanksgiving. Sarah and Rebecca thought it would be funny if our family showed up in ugly sweaters so they went to a thrift store and bought us all some. Sarah's looks just like one I wore in high school!

I've missed tons of other fun things but it is 1am and I'm just happy that I got semi caught up!
