Mmmm...Caramel Apple Night!

After I saw Kristen's post when they made caramel apples, I haven't been able to get them off my mind so we had caramel apple night tonight. Brent made the caramel and dipped them for us while we went shopping for yummy stuff to put on them. Poor Sarah worked tonight so she missed out but I'm sure she'll be happy to eat them anyway! Here are some of the finished apples:

A couple things...

1. Brent had his birthday on Thursday. As it sometimes is when we get older, it wasn't a huge blowout celebration but I think he had a good day. I made him a really yummy veggie omelet for breakfast with mushrooms, garlic, onions and spinich. He opened the few gifts we gave him then he was off to work! He came and worked with me at Power and we were able to eat some sushi for lunch together.

Later I went to his spinning class for the first time (if you don't count the time I went and lasted only 15 minutes). He's been wanting me to go for years now and I've always been apprehensive because I know how hard his class is. I have to say, I actually liked it and even made it through the whole class without passing out! I was a little wimpy when it came to doing all the climbs and standing but I felt like I got a great workout and might even do it again sometime.

After class a few family and friends came over for some cake and ice cream. I made german chocolate cake since it's his favorite. I had some issues with it this time but I don't think anybody noticed that the cake totally fell apart when I turned it over onto the wax paper after it came out of the oven. Or that a whole pan kind of cooked too much. I think once you put that yummy icing on the cake, you don't notice much!

I am very aware how lucky I am to have such a wonderful husband. It was so nice to be able to spend the whole day with him. Even if it was all about work, we still had a great time together.

2. I got a call from the doctor's office earlier this week that they were going to have to cancel my surgery that was scheduled for tomorrow. They said there is a nationwide recall on a piece of the surgical equipment they have to use for my surgery. I could do the abdominal hysterectomy but I really don't want to be down for six weeks when I could have a recovery of only two weeks with the LAVH surgery. We now have it on hold until the part is fixed. Nice that I don't have to worry about surgery tomorrow but a bummer because I'm just ready to be done with this thing.

Jake got glasses!

We were at a store a few weeks ago when Jake mentioned to me that he was happy he was moved up front in his class because now he can see the board. This was the first I had ever heard that he had a hard time seeing. We started testing what he could and couldn't read and decided it was probably a good idea to get him checked out. Sure enough he needed glasses.
His glasses finally came in today. There is nothing better than watching somebody get glasses for the first time. He kept looking around at everything as we were driving in the car and kept saying, "cool!" over and over. I think he looks pretty dang cute in them too!

This week's random happenings

We started the week with General Conference and had our semi annual waffle brunch at Steve and Glenna's between sessions. Rebecca got a hold of the camera and had some fun taking pictures with the cousins:
We've had lots of that stinkin' flu around our house over the last few weeks. Nate had it last week for 4 days and then Rebecca got it on Monday night. She went to her choir concert that night and when we came home she had 103 fever. Oops. I knew her voice was gone but I had no idea that she was actually sick! Jake then came down with it on Thursday. That same day our dog was throwing up so Rebecca and I decided we should get a picture of all the sickies in our house:
As of right now, we are all well. I sure hope we are done with this thing! It's crazy how many people have it right now. I've never seen any flu spread as fast as this one has. One day last week they said 136 kids were home sick from our elementary school. Rebecca said it's just as bad at the junior high.

Sarah was asked to go to Mesa High's homecoming dance which was held tonight. She went with a boy she didn't know very well so she was a little worried about going but she said she had a good time. I think it helped that she is friends with all of the other people that were in her group.

These two pictures above are Sarah and Jake on their date last night at the corn maze.

Tonight all dressed up for the dance. Look familiar?

Sarah's first date and Homecoming

Can I tell you how much I love Facebook? Brent and I were out of town when Sarah went on her first date so we didn't ge
t to share in the fun. So tonight I was on Facebook and noticed that one of Sarah's friends had posted some pictures with Sarah in them. Low and behold I found a picture of Sarah on her date! Here she is with the boy she went with and below are all the
girls that went on the date too.
Looks like they had a great time!
Tonight is Homecoming. We were very rushed to get Sarah ready on time so it's amazing she looks as good as she does! She has
wonderful friends who loaned her the jewelry and shoes and an even more wonderful grandma who took her dress in for me. They were going to Brent's uncle Roc's house for dinner, then to the dance, then to Jesters. Hopefully I can get some more pictures of the whole group later but here is a picture of Sarah and Holden:

Surgery update

I had my hysteroscopy on Wednesday and I have one word for it: PAINFUL. Before he started I told the doctor that I felt like the fibroid was shrinking. He kind of shrugged it off and went on with the procedure (joking with Brent and the nurse the whole time while I felt like I was going to die). Afterward he told me that my uterus is huge. Normal size is around 40-60 grams, really big is 200 grams, mine is around 600 grams. Yay me.

I guess that's why it's so easy for me to stick my stomach out and look very pregnant. I've been known (and I'm not proud of this) to pretend to be pregnant when the only close spot in a parking lot was a pregnant lady spot. My kids were mortified. Sorry pregnant people, it was a very low moment in my life and I've repented and promise to never do it again. In my defense, I am carrying around a very large fibroid tumor that gives me back aches and makes my hips go out on me.

My hysterectomy is scheduled for October 26th. That gives me almost 2 weeks after the surgery before I have to be at church for our first primary presentation practice. He's doing the surgery laparoscopically so it should be an easy recovery. Let's hope all goes smoothly!
