Lady....again

Remember when I said last Lady post? I lied. I was looking for something in my room and saw Lady jump next to me. I looked over and she was trying to smell a scorpion. She probably got stung 4 or 5 times before the scorpion got away...under my bed. That was about an hour ago. Rebecca was just looking at her and realized she is really swollen! Can more things go wrong for our poor dog this month? Hopefully October will be better for her. Side note: I don't know if I'll be sleeping in my bed tonight. Still haven't found the creepy thing.

Obedient Daughters

I have repeatedly told my children not to play with my camera. These are just a few pictures I found last night. Hmm...don't think they're listening. Maybe posting embarrassing pictures on the family blog will get their attention.

Jake's Nose

We had an eventful night on Tuesday night. Jake was jumping off of the wall onto our trampoline when he bounced out of control and landed nose first onto the bar of the trampoline. After two towels were full of blood and he swelled up a ton, we decided to take him in to urgent care. Nope, no broken nose as you can see by the picture, just lots of excitement and tears. We had ice on it as soon as it happened and kept it on it until the doctor saw him so the swelling was minimal. Jake told me he was afraid to fall asleep because he couldn't breath out of his nose. I told him he would be fine. When the doctor was leaving he told me to make sure we keep ice on it until he goes to bed so that the swelling would continue to go down. I went to check on Jake after he went to bed and this is what I found. Such an obedient child! We thought it was funny and had to get a picture.

This is just sad!

Last blog of Lady, I promise! I went outside to watch the kids jump on the tramp and noticed Lady in the "garden" digging like mad. She wouldn't stop until it was nice and deep and big enough for her whole body. The poor thing thinks she is having puppies and keeps trying to make a place for herself to have them. I feel so dang bad for her. Anyone have a puppy they want to loan Lady so she can feel like she's a mommy? She's got tons of milk for some pups! Just kidding, no pups for us please!

Jake's not so secret admirer

A few weeks ago at church Jake's friend Maddie gave this to Jake during sacrament meeting. (They always sit in the row in front of us). She was very proud of it and showed everyone in the two families. I thought it was so cute and I think Jake liked the attention. After sacrament meeting I told Jake that we should put it in his scrapbook and write that it was his first love letter. Jake rolled his eyes at me and said, "It's not the first one mom!"

Stake Conference

Well I'm on the computer and supposed to be writing my primary sacrament meeting program but thought I would first share a little bit about our stake conference. We had such a neat conference this time both Saturday and Sunday. Elder Holland was the main speaker this time. Saturday night he pretty much yelled at us to never give up when we are having difficulties in our lives. In his words: "DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP!" He told us that every single prophet in history including the Savior had to deal with very hard times but they endured and our heavenly father still loved them. Sunday he spoke to the youth and asked them for 10 years of their lives to devote to the gospel. He wanted them to devote these years (12-22) to listening to their leaders and parents and do the things they ask them and teach them to do because..."Adults know better!". He had a great way of connecting with the youth and I noticed all the youth around me listening intently to what he had to say. He ended his talk with a blessing on us. It was very touching and I don't know if there was a dry eye among the adults. I think my favorite talk of the whole conference was on Saturday night. They had a man in his 60's that was just baptized come up and bear his testimony and share his conversion story. His wife and children were always active and he would go to church with them occasionally but it took him 40 years to finally decide to put his pride aside and really find out for himself if this was the true gospel of Jesus Christ. As I listened to him speak I really felt that if my dad had not died, this would have been exactly his testimony. I had a hard time keeping it together as he spoke. I saw him today at the Sunday session just a few rows in front of me and wanted to go and talk to him and tell him how much his testimony meant to me but I never worked up the nerve to do it. All in all, I loved this conference. I can't wait for general conference in a few weeks. I'll be in Tennessee with Kristen's family and get to watch it with them!!!

false pregnancy?

I was just reading up on false pregnancies in dogs and I really think that this the case with Lady. Apparently with false pregnancies dogs will get bigger in the mammary area and will go through all the same physical and psychological changes as if they really are pregnant. The milk eventually toward the end of the cycle will start to drain on it's own which is what is happening with Lady. My kids are sad that we probably won't be having any puppies but Brent and I are very relieved. I guess only time will tell if I'm correct.

Puppies?

So the other day Brent said that lady looked like she might be pregnant because her teets were bigger. I laughed at him and said they look like they've always looked. Last night I noticed that they were definately bigger just by seeing her walk around. Then as I was petting her I noticed milk coming out of some of them. So... all you dog experts out there, does this mean she is pregnant or is there another reason she would have milk coming out of them? I'm a little freaked out about what kind of dogs will come out of her if she is actually pregnant! We were looking online to see all the different mixes of dogs that are part bassett hound and it was very very scary!
Anyway, any help would be great. Brent would rather us not spend money on the vet just so he can tell us if she's pregnant or not. We were going to breed her but had recently decided not to because it was too hard to get her papers up to date. We had just talked a few days ago about making an appointment to get her fixed. Hopefully it's just a false alarm and all will be well. (The kids had a fun time dressing her up the other day so I thought I'd share the pictures.)

Tagged

Melissa tagged me with this questionnaire. I wouldn't do it if anyone else tagged me but since I owe her for the whole blog thing I will go ahead and answer these questions. I really don't like these things! I did have fun getting to know more about Melissa in hers though!

Four Jobs I've Had: Sizzler as a hostess(my very first job besides babysitting), telephone sales at a pest control company (lasted a week: HATED IT!), Front desk/biller/etc. at a Chiropractor's office (I think all chiropractors are quacks now), and a claims adjuster at Blue Cross/Blue Shield Az (was paying claims without training on the first day they put me in that position ....think about that one for a while. I now fight any claim that is denied because most likely the person had no clue what they were doing when the paid the claim.

Places I've lived:-AZ. That's it! Is that boring or what?!!

Movies I could watch again and again: Any old musical and any silly funny (not gross) movies like The Three Amigos or Tommy Boy. When seeing movies new I love suspenseful movies that you try to figure out the ending but are usually wrong. Oh, and I loved Hairspray. I could definitely watch that one again and again.

Favorite Foods:- I like most things and it really depends on my mood. I think I could have Mexican food everyday though but not the Rosa's kind. I like the kind you can get at Macayo's or Someburros.

A couple weird things about me:- I still do cartwheels (ripped my pants at my in-laws when we had a cartwheel contest so I have backed down on the whole cartwheel thing in public. And: I've been in more car accidents than I can count. Horrible, I know.

Favorite (most recently read) books (besides scripture):-I loved the Work and the Glory series and The Kingdom and the Crown series. For non-religious; my friend introduced me to the author Harlan Coben and I really like his books when I'm in the mood for suspense. My all time favorite book is The Hiding Place. It always makes me want to be a better person and more thankful for what I have.

Fav Tv Shows:- Grey's Anatomy, So you think you can dance, Biggest Loser, Office, Heros, and I know it's horrible but I love reality shows. Brent makes fun of the things I tape so I will not put them on the blog so that more people can make fun of me.

Websites that I enjoy I'm on all the different primary websites a lot these days. Other than that, my e-mail, and all my family's blogs, there's nothing else I visit on a regular basis.

Places I'd rather be:- Hard one, hmmm.... I've always wanted to visit Europe, I have only been to Hawaii for 10 hours so I'd like to go back and actually spend time there and I'd love to be shopping at Target right now. My favorite thing to do when I have extra time is to go row by row to all the things on clearance. Rebecca says Target is my Disneyland. Pathetic huh?

I now tag: Joni (only if you haven't done this one already), Kelly (because you haven't blogged for awhile), Heidi (because I don't know that much about you!)

Mrs. America Pageant

I went to Tucson on Wednesday with my friend Mary to chaperone her daughter's show group, Light. They were there to perform at the Mrs. America Pageant. Oh my goodness!!! We had the best time! Karen's sister, Kathy was there to chaperone too so it was fun to talk to her and play a few games of Rummicub together while we waited for the kids to perform. I'll show my pictures and explain them:
First pic> I know, weird, I'm showing a bottle of water but it's now my new favorite water. They had this for us to drink at the hotel where the pageant was and it is sooo goood! When I'm at a restaurant, I always like to have extra lemon for my water. This actually tastes like you squeezed lots of lemon in your water. Not sweet, not carbonated, just water with lemon. Love it! (You can see our Rummicub game in the background too.)

We were sitting down outside watching the group practice in the afternoon and Mary found this agenda or whatever you call it sitting on a chair. Our favorite part was towards the top where it says, "OMAROSA BACKSTAGE WITH LOSERS". I looked at Mary and said, "Omarosa is here!!!" For those who have no clue who I'm talking about, Omarosa was on the first Apprentice tv show and was the one everyone loved to hate.
Mary texted Brent and told him that Omarosa was going to be there and he texted back that if we got a picture with her he'd give us $100.00. Mention $100 bucks to us and we'll figure out a way! Actually, I was too embarrassed to ask her for a picture when we saw her. This is why it's good to have an outgoing friend. I cut myself out of the picture because I look horrible but you can tell it's me with her. We also got a picture of Mary with Alan Thicke who was the host of the show. Mary didn't want me to put her picture in the blog for the same reason I didn't want mine in the blog.

Obviously I get amused by little things. I had to take a picture of these guys. It rained in the afternoon and luckily cleared up in time for the program to start but they had to frantically dry the stage before they could let the women prance around on it in high heels. Look at what they are drying the floor with. They had these tiny rags on each foot and were scuffling around on the floor. Finally they realized they weren't getting it done very fast and had the hotel people bring them some bigger towels. Maybe they figured it out when this guy saw that I was making fun of them. I am happy to report that only two ladies slipped during the program.

This guy to the left was talking to one of the men who were frantically setting up and drying things after the rain. The worker guy was asking this guy what they should do about the wet drapes. This guy to the left came over to Mary and I and said, "I'm a big time t.v. exec. Do you really think I care about the drapes?" Mary turned to me after he left and said, "Did he really just say that he's a big time t.v. exec??? I spent a long time after that trying to get a picture of this big time t.v. exec without him seeing me. I wanted proof to be able to tell people that I talked to a big time t.v. exec. Yes, I am 36, not 12.

We ended up leaving after Light performed the last time which was about 11:00pm. The guy in charge of the group decided that since the kids didn't have dinner, he should take them for steak and chicken at 11:00pm. We didn't end up getting home until 2:15 am. I had a great time though and those stories and pictures I was able to come home with was well worth the no sleep. BTW, The program will be airing on the W.E. network on Sept. 21. Hopefully they will put Caitlin's show group in the actual program. They told them they would be in the t.v. show at least once but who knows what they will do. They actually were the best part of the show. They did really well and were very entertaining.
Here's all the rest of the pics of the ladies. The close up one of the immodest lady in blue is actually Mrs. Utah and she is an Osmand. Everyone had to wear the same dresses at the beginning but everyone else managed to cover themselves up a little better than Mrs. Utah did. I do admit that I am back on my diet and going strong since that night.

Oh, one more thing...We found this script lying on a wall and had to take a picture of it. So funny to see how every single line is scripted. Actually when they weren't filming, Alan Thicke was pretty funny all on his own. Too bad he had to say exactly what they wrote for him. Another thing I thought was funny is before they even started taping the show, they filmed the audience. The director asked everyone to laugh like they just heard the funniest joke, and then clap really loud and act like they were very excited so they could get enough taped with the audience actually enjoying themselves. Too funny.
