Random

Since I have no camera, I have no pictures but I still wanted to write a little about our week. Nothing special happened but I feel like I'm forgetting to write a lot of the little stuff that happens. The little stuff is the stuff we will forget later and my time with these cute kids is slipping away so fast that I better start writing these experiences down more often.

Nate has a new obsession and therefore, so does Jake. We have alot of extra old bikes sitting in our garage so they have been taking them apart and making them into new bikes. The most important thing Nate says they are trying to do is to make the bikes weigh less. The latest bike they re-did was 42 pounds to begin with and he got it down to 20. Scares me a little thinking about what they might have taken off the bike to make it weigh so much less! I just love that they are outside using their hands and brains rather than being inside watching t.v. or playing video games. Jake even told me that he doesn't like to play on the computer as much as being outside now. Miracles do happen! We'll see how long this lasts with the weather getting hotter and hotter. In Arizona, we stay inside in the summer, not the winter.

Rebecca was asked by some classmates to do the art for a project they were doing in a class. She was really happy to say yes and loved doing it. She got some great compliments by her teacher and classmates. She and I had a nice conversation tonight about how proud I am of what a great girl she is. I've walked in on her reading her scriptures every night lately without ever being asked or reminded. She really wants to be her best and only hangs out with friends who want to choose the right too. Rebecca's best comment this week: I was tired one day after staying up way too late the night before and working all day so I brought home ingredients to make meatball subs. She saw what I was making and said, "I'm trying to eat better and this house makes it impossible!" She then proceeded to make a salad for herself and had some strawberries to go with it. She has given me more motivation to make more of an effort to cook healthier meals for my family even when I'm tired.

Sarah still hasn't tested to get her driver's permit. She has been eligible for a few months now but just doesn't even seem interested. I figured why push it?! She finally admitted that she's afraid she will make the same mistakes I made when I had my permit and mistook the gas for the brake when I was trying to park. I ran into the carport pole and the car that was parked on blocks. This made the car run into the house which then broke my brother's water bed and also caused the whole carport to come halfway down. Oh, such fond memories. Did I mention that my parents were out of town at the time and gave me strict instructions not to drive the car? Sarah would never do that though!!! Right Sarah???

Please, no driving horror stories - Cari will be getting her license in less than 2 weeks! I agree that we have to treasure the everyday small moments in our lives. Thanks so much for sharing yours. I'm so impressed with the mechanical side of your boys and the great example Rebecca is too. I can honestly say that my kids are my greatest examples. We have so much to be thankful for!

Oh Sarah, you could never do anything that bad--do go ahead and go for it!! You'll be great!

p.s. I asked Tanner if he helped do some of the bike rebuilding--he said, "Oh, don't worry, we only took off the hand brakes." So there you go . . . :)

Love your updates! Nate and Jake...way to go! Can you teach Brennan that pleae? Becca - SO proud of you too. Sarah - you would NEVER make that same mistake because you don't have an OLDER SISTER to bug and bug and bug to let you drive the car until she FINALLY gives in and you end up crashing the car through the wall and the OLDER SISTER gets in SOOO much MORE trouble than you because she shouldn't have let you drive in the first place! So see, nothing to be afraid of! :)

I love hearing about kids being outside using thier creative minds instead of on the computer. Great that Rebecca is chooseing to hang out with people that make good choices like her. That will make it easier on her to make the right choices.
